ROCKLAND – Knox County Sheriff deputies arrested and charged a Tenants Harbor man with violating a condition of release.

Eric Lugar, 39, of Tenants Harbor, was arrested by Knox County Sheriff deputies on Tuesday at his residence in Tenants Harbor. According to court documents, Deputy Paul Pinkham was called to Lugar’s home after receiving a report that two men and a woman were fighting outside the home. Pinkham did not find a disturbance, but when he entered Lugar’s home after being permitted to come inside, he found Lugar was intoxicated.

Pinkham reported that beer cans were found both outside the home and in the kitchen. Lugar’s speech was slurred and he was swaying back and forth, according to the court documents.

Lugar was convicted in May 2013, of shooting his dog, Scooter, in the head, after the dog had defecated on the floor. Lugar did not initially seek treatment for the dog and allowed him to suffer. The dog was treated by a veterinarian, did recover and then was taken to the Pope Memorial Humane Society in Thomaston.

At that time, Lugar also pleaded guilty in court to other pending charges of theft, drug possession, illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, and a probation violation. He was sentenced to three years and four months in prison with all but 60 days suspended and was placed on probation, with the conditions that he would not own any more animals and possess or consume alcohol.

When he was arrested on Tuesday, Lugar asked if he could be given an opportunity to run “as he was just trying to live his life and make a living,” according to the police report.

Lugar did not resist arrest and was transported to the Knox County jail, where he is currently being held.
