State Police: Troy man facing arrest for sex charge shoots himself
TROY — An unidentified man shot himself Wednesday afternoon in Troy as he was about to be arrested for child sexual charges, according to Maine State Police.
Troopers with the State Police Tactical Team were called to Barker Road in Troy around 2 p.m. March 13, after a man refused to answer the door for detectives. In a press release, state Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said the detectives had gone to the man's home to arrest him on a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Shortly after the tactical team arrived outside the home, McCausland said the man shot himself with a 22-caliber rifle.
"No police officers were involved in the shooting. The wounded man has been transported to a hospital. His name is being withheld as relatives are notified," said McCausland in the release.
Barker Road in Troy is located about 25 miles northwest of Belfast, north of Route 202 and between routes 7 and 9/220.
