Speed, alcohol considered factors in North Haven fatal crash
NORTH HAVEN — The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on South Shore Road on the island of North Haven at approximately 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 27.
North Haven Ambulance and Sheriff's deputies responded to the reported rollover vehicle crash near Apple Tree Hill. Chief Deputy Tim Carroll said the single occupant of the vehicle, Evan Hopkins, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly found by his brother, who went to a nearby residence to call for help.
A North Haven resident, Hopkins was said to be travelling north on South Shore Road when he lost control of his 1998 Chevrolet truck. The truck travelled off the road, striking multiple fence posts and rolled over at least once before coming to rest back on its wheels, according to Carroll.
The crash is being investigated by deputies Larry Hesseltine and Nathaniel Jack, and it is believed that speed and alcohol were contributing factors, said Carroll in a press release.
