Searsmont mother arrested for injuring infant
SEARSMONT — Following an investigation into a complaint of a child with injuries consistent with abuse, a Waldo County Sheriff’s detective Friday arrested a 28-year-old woman for assault.
According to a press release, Katherine Manchester, of Searsmont, allegedly admitted to Detective Gerald Lincoln that she struck her child in a manner that caused visible injuries to the child’s face.
Manchester was arrested and charged with assault of a child under 6 years of age, a class C crime. She was taken to Waldo County Correctional Center, where she is remains held with no bail allowed.
Due to the significance of the injuries and the fact that the child was only 9 months old,Manchester was arrested and the child was moved into a safe placement with family members.
Manchester is being held with no bail allowed due to the felony nature of her new charges, and the fact that she has two sets of preexisting bail conditions.
