Search on for car that struck Winterport woman
On Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 7:15 pm the Waldo County Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting that a woman had been struck by a vehicle on North Main Street in Winterport.
The caller stated that his wife, Georgina Wells, 56, of Winterport, had gone to the mailbox to check the mail. He heard a disturbance and when he went to see what had happened he found that his wife had been struck by a car that had fled the scene, according to a news release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
“It is believed the vehicle was traveling southbound on Route 1A at the time of the incident,” the sheriff’s office said. “Mrs. Wells was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center with serious injuries that include broken bones.”
The passenger side mirror of the car was broken off the vehicle in the collision. Initial information indicates the suspect vehicle is a dark blue, 2009 to 2011 Honda Civic. No additional information is available about the vehicle at this time.
The attached picture shows the color of the suspect vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office is asking everyone to report any information that may help identify the vehicle and individual responsible.
