Rockland Police Department hires new patrol officer

ROCKLAND — Rockland Police announced in a news release on its Facebook page, June 6, that Officer Ken Smith joined the Rockland Police Department earlier this year.
Smith grew up in the southern tier of New York State. He joined the Army after graduating from high school and was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. with the 82nd Airborne Division as a Fire Support Specialist. He was twice deployed to Iraq.
After separating from the Army, Smith moved back to N.Y. and studied Veterinary Technology at SUNY Delhi, where he met his wife, Patricia. After graduating from college, Smith and his wife decided to make a change and moved to Alaska, working as veterinary technicians.
Smith had an interest in trying law enforcement so he applied to the Juneau Police Department and was hired.
He had vacationed in Maine in earlier years and decided to look into moving here. Smith found that Rockland Police Department was hiring, and it looked to be a nice fit. He flew to Rockland to see the area and ultimately decided to move here, according to the release.
Smith and his wife, Patricia live locally, with their young son, Cameron.
