CAMDEN — A Waldoboro man has been arrested by Camden Police for allegedly breaking into a restaurant where he was formerly employed and stealing over $500 in cash.

Jarin M. Cocco, 24, was charged with burglary and theft for an early morning break-in on Aug. 21 at Peter Ott’s on the water in Camden.

According to the affidavit filed in Knox County Unified Court by Detective Sergeant Curt Andrick, police were notified after an employee who opened the restaurant discovered that all of the money was missing from the register.

A security surveillance video showed the suspect had allegedly entered the restaurant through a window that was forced open at the rear entrance facing the Camden Public Landing. The restaurant’s owner, Peter Masin-Peters, said that the man in the video was Cocco, a former employee, who he said was terminated in July.

Cocco allegedly stole the money from a cash register and lock box, which was also forced open. When the suspect opened the register, it automatically printed a stamped ticket which showed the time of entry at 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 21.

Police obtained a warrant on Aug. 28 and arrested Cocco.

The date for Cocco to make his initial appearance in court has not yet been scheduled.
