With Hurricane Dorian tracking east and offshore of Cape Cod tonight and Saturday, the coast of Maine, including Penobscot Bay, will experience showers of breezy conditions.

High clouds of Dorian streamed along the coast and another system from the upper Great Lakes is to head southeast from the west.

“This impulse will back the flow and help kick the tropical system further offshore and accelerate it with thicker clouds from Dorian arriving from the south during the afternoon,” according to the National Weather Service, in Gray. “A few stray showers may reach southern New Hampshire and southwest coastal Maine towards evening...otherwise a dry day is expected. Tonight we`ll find ourselves on the western periphery of the moisture from Dorian as it passes well offshore to the southeast of the 40N/70W benchmark. The more widespread shower activity should be confined to the coastal plain with scattered showers elsewhere.”

Then, winds are to shift to the northeast and gust near the coast Saturday morning.

“On Saturday...showers quickly taper off by late morning even in coastal sections as Dorian passes well offshore to our east,” the NWS said. “The clouds and showers should limit high temperatures to the 60s..with some areas near the international border remaining in the upper 50s. Strong rip currents will remain a threat along the coast on Saturday, along with some beach erosion and possibly splash- over. High tides are early in the morning and again late in the afternoon.”
