Memorial Day in Camden: ‘Remembering those who gave their lives for freedoms we enjoy’
CAMDEN - Everybody loves a parade. Especially the children. Put them in a vehicle in the parade and their life could not be any better for that day. Camden’s Memorial Day Parade kicked off at 9:30 a.m. from Norwood Ave. and proceeded through downtown to the Camden Library.
A somber stop at the Village Green saw the American Legion Post 30 Color Guard lay a wreath at the war memorial, a gun salute, and taps played by a member of the Camden Hills Regional High School Band before it proceeded on.
Maine State Representative Vicki Doudera was watching with her family and commented.
“Memorial Day for many is the start of the summer, but it’s really the opportunity to remember those who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy,” she said.
A large crowd lined the streets and was reminiscent of prepandemic times. There was a joyous air about the crowd, lots of waves, and smiles abounded. It felt good to be outside on this summer-like day. And a good day to honor the fallen veterans who sacrificed to give us our freedom.
