Man arrested after ramming downtown Belfast porta-potties with truck
BELFAST — An Oakland man was arrested by Belfast Police July 27 after they viewed video footage of a raised truck smashing two downtown port-o-potties on the Front Street side of Armistice Bridge, according to Chief Michael McFadden.
Tyler W. Stover, 18, was charged with aggravated criminal mischief and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon as a result of the incident, which was captured on video by friends.
While the incident took place July 25, around 10:20 p.m., Stover wasn’t arrested until July 27, after several anonymous tips helped to identify Stover and his current whereabouts.
According to McFadden, Stover had recently decided to move to Belfast from Oakland and was with potential new friends while having cocktails. During his partaking of cocktails, it was suggested by his new friends that he should use his “truck to ram the porta-potties at the end of the footbridge,” which is exactly what he did, according to police.
The video recorded by friends was viewed by police at roughly the same time the owners of the port-o-potties in question were discovering the destruction. The owners were also tasked with cleaning up any mess caused by the incident, which reportedly took hours.
One of the plastic outhouses was destroyed, while a second sustained substantial but repairable damage.
Due to the amount of damage done, which totaled more than $3,000, Stover has been charged with aggravated criminal mischief, a felony.
McFadden declined to comment on whether Stover admitted or denied being the driver of the vehicle.
