State Police say Maine's first fatal moose crash of the year took place late Friday night, Oct. 5, along Interstate 95 in Medway.
Killed in the crash was Donnie Wilcox, 54, of Winslow. Troopers said Wilcox's Subaru struck the bull moose in the southbound travel lane, two miles south of the Medway exit about 10 p.m. The impact threw the moose into the windshield and peeled back the car's roof.
Passersby found the crash shortly after it happened, but there were no witnesses. Wilcox died at the scene and the moose also was killed. It was the first fatal crash of a moose and a vehicle in 2018 in Maine.
