Jefferson man injured in noon crash in Union
UNION — A Jefferson man was injured in a single-car accident on Eastern Road (Route 131) in Union just after noon Monday.
Knox County Sheriff's deputies Matt Elwell and Paul Simonetti responded to the Feb. 18 accident after Lee Higgins, 70, crossed Eastern Road at the Warren and Union town line, just before Buckeye Lane, and spun out.
Higgins was traveling north on the road and was driving a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 that then went off the right side of the road and rolled multiple times before coming to rest back on its wheels.
Higgins, the lone occupant of the truck, was able to get himself out of the vehicle, according to Sheriff Donna Dennison in an email Tuesday morning. He was wearing a seat belt, and Dennison reported that the airbags did not deploy.
Union Fire and EMS also responded to the accident and Higgins was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital complaining of shoulder and chest pain.
