Islesboro police arrest prowler
ISLESBORO — Persistence on the part of an alleged prowler and a family paid off for Islesboro Police and the homeowner early Friday morning, when a 20-year-old Islesboro man was placed under arrest for criminal trespassing.
Islesboro Public Safety in a press release Saturday said officer Nickolas Von Husen responded Thursday, Aug. 15, to a Pendleton Point Road residence where a family was sleeping and woke up to find that someone had been in the house earlier that morning. It was determined that nothing had been stolen, and the investigation included collecting evidence and information from the homeowners.
Less than 24 hours after responding to the residence, officer Fred Porter was called to the home on Pendleton Point Road at 1:45 a.m. Friday for a report of a prowler.
This time, Porter said the homeowner was able to see the individual and provide him with a physical description. Unfortunately, Porter said he was unable to locate the prowler after searching the area surrounding the house and the nearby woods.
Less than two hours later, at 3:48 a.m. on Aug. 16, Porter was called back to the residence for another prowler complaint and while responding back to the home, Porter located a male fitting the description the homeowner gave him earlier. In addition, the homeowner was able to identify the individual he saw at his home, said Porter.
In addition to charging Leslie Smith with criminal trespass, Porter charged him with possession of a usable amount of marijuana and sale and use of drug paraphernalia.
The investigation is ongoing, and Porter said charges are expected to be filed against additional individuals.
