Firefighters subdue, tie up Thorndike man; put out fire
THORNDIKE — The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office has charged a Thorndike man with arson following a fire Saturday that heavily damaged his house.
Working with the Waldo County Sheriff's Office, fire investigators today charged Randy Tremaine, 42, with arson, domestic violence assault and violating conditions of release, according to the Maine Public Safety Office.
The fire destroyed a shed on Tremaine's property and badly damaged his house.
Tremaine threatened firefighters who responded to the blaze, Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said in a news release issued Monday night, March 16.
“Firefighters subdued him, tied him up and waited for deputies to respond, while they put out the fire,” the release said. “Tremaine was taken to a Bangor hospital for self inflicted injuries and released late Monday morning. He is now being held at the Waldo County Jail. The fire followed an altercation with his ex-girlfriend, who had gone to the house to retrieve her belongings.”
