Corinne M. Demmons, obituary
NORTH HAVEN — Corinne M. Demmons, 80, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Dexter Health Care Center in Dexter, following an extended illness.
Born in Rockland Nov. 4, 1931, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Nellie Gowell Mills. Corinne was raised on North Haven and graduated from North Haven High School.
Following high school, Corinne married Harvey Demmons on North Haven. Together they made their home there most of their married life. For many years Corinne was employed as a domestic helper to several island families. She assisted with dinner parties and cared for the homes, opening up in the summer and closing down in the winter.
In 1980 Corinne and Harvey moved to Dover, Mass., where she was employed as a caretaker for Mr. and Mrs. Henry Guilds. In 1991 Corinne returned to her beloved North Haven, where she continued her work as a caretaker. She was active in the community as a member of the Pythian Sisters, Unity Guild and the North Haven Baptist Church.
She loved gardening, reading, sewing, and knitting. She will be remembered as a fantastic baker who was most famous for her yeast rolls.
Predeceased by a granddaughter, Desiree Veilleux; and her good friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Baker; Mrs. Demmons is survived by her children, Frank Demmons and his fiancée, Doris Beverage, of North Haven, Marie Demmons of Thomaston, Clinton Demmons of Rockland, Kenneth Demmons and his wife, Margo, of Frankfort, Karen Grant and her husband, John, of North Haven, Sheldon Demmons and his wife, Andrea, of Leicester, N.C.; special friends Mr. and Mrs. Henry Guilds of Dover, N.H.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, Oct. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. at North Haven Baptist Church in North Haven, with the Rev. David Macy officiating. Private interment will be at Fuller Cemetery.
