CAMDEN — Charles Viele Fryer, a longtime resident of Camden, passed away peacefully at Pen Bay Medical Center Feb. 23, 2013. Chuck was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Middletown, N.Y. He attended Deerfield Academy, where he met June Louise Kemp, who became his loving wife.

He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1951 and the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration in 1952. After an 18-month enlistment as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, Chuck began a 30-year career as an ad man on Madison Avenue. He was an account executive with a number of prominent New York agencies, first at Young & Rubicam and ultimately retiring from Warren Pfaff & Associates.

In 1984, he and June moved to Camden from Wilton, Conn. It proved a very happy move, and Chuck was involved in town activities and boards. His frequent opinion pieces in the Camden Herald delighted and annoyed local residents for many years.

Surviving is his wife of 61 years, June Fryer of Camden; his sons, Gregory Fryer and his wife, Joanne, of Cumberland, and Bruce Fryer and his wife, Debbie, of Verona, N.J.; a brother, Jeff Gould and his wife, Nanci, of the Charlottesville, Va., area; six grandchildren; one new great-grandson; and one niece. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Fryer.

A family celebration of Chuck's life will be held this summer.
