Camden-Rockport school board changes meeting location
CAMDEN — Due to the weather, the School Administrative District 28 (Camden-Rockport K-8) school board meeting will be held at the Bus Barn at Lion's Lane in Camden this evening, beginning at 7 p.m. A finance committee meeting will precede it at 6:30 p.m., in the same place.
The agenda for the full board meeting includes hearing reports from the principals and superintendent, and subcomittees. It also includes reviewing policies and a job description for a middle school intervention coordinator.
Camden-Rockport Elementary School Principal Teresa Lash is reporting her school's enrollment is 368, down from 375 in September. Two students transferred to SAD 40 (Waldoboro, Washington, Union, Warren and Friendship).
The district also welcomed two new students, one from RSU 13 (Rockland area), and one from a private school.
"I continue to be concerned about the high percentage of children who are moving in and out of our schools," she wrote in her report to the board.
She also noted that the school's January staff meeting was appropriated for discussion of emergency plans, and a practice "adults-only" lockdown drill. The school will practice again with students "after a suitable amount of time has passed to avoid triggering any lingering fears for parents and students."
She was referring to the Sandy Hook tragedy.
The staff has listed several items that need to be addressed to improve building safety.
The board will review a job description of a middle school intervention coordinator. The job goal entails "providing information and serving as a resource to others and assembling accurate student data to drive the decision making process as we meet the needs of struggling students.... The Intervention Coordinator will serve as a member of the school teams' supportive of curriculum, instruction, and assessment and will work in partnership with all of the support personnel and administrators in the district as they continue to integrate RTI into the culture of the schools and the district."
The board will also review several policies, including those that govern tobacco use, hazing, employee use of private vehicles during school hours, bullying and harassment and nepotism.
