Brunswick man charged with Brink’s theft attempt in Camden
Camden Police have charged Jon Baribeau, 48, of Brunswick, for Attempted Felony Theft Class B. The incident occurred August 28, with police describing it in a news release as “involving a person trying to gain access to Brink’s Armored truck at the Camden Hannaford.”
Baribeau was arrested September 5 in Brunswick and is due to be arraigned in the Knox County Courthouse at 1 p.m. today.
Detective Curt Andrick was assisted by Detective Don Murray, of Knox County Sheriff's Office, and the Brunswick Police Department. They arrested Baribeau in Brunswick and transported him to the Knox County Jail. Bail was set at $10,000 cash.
Andrick said someone from the public had tipped off Camden police as to the suspect’s identity. Camden police received new leads on the case from witnesses, and video evidence, according to the release.
Police had ended the search in the woods behind Hannaford grocery store in Camden for a man who attempted to open the back of a Brink's truck near Bangor Savings Bank around 10 a.m.
Belfast Police sent Officer Travis Spencer, and his trained dog, Dex, a Dutch-German shepherd mix, to help in the search.
The suspect was wearing a dark mask and haz mat coveralls, according to police reports.
