Belfast police arrest woman on attempted burglary charges
On Friday, July 22, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Belfast police officers responded to a call concerning a suspicious person, and which then developed into a burglary in progress at 61 Ryan Road in Belfast.
The caller stated that someone was banging on the front and then rear doors to their residence, according to the Belfast Police Dept., in a news release.
“Upon arrival, officers located a person fitting the description at the rear of the location,” the release said. “Upon seeing the officers, the suspect fled from the scene on an electric bicycle and onto Route 1. After a short pursuit, the suspect was stopped and apprehended on Searsport Avenue.”
According to police, the suspect was allegedly found to be in possession of a fixed-blade knife and drug paraphernalia.
“Officers also discovered evidence at the scene of attempts made by the defendant to force entry into the residence,” the release said.
Police arrested Mary Sczepaniak, 44, of Belfast, and charged her with Attempted Burglary, Use of Drug Paraphernalia, and Refusing to Stop for a Law Enforcement Officer.
The defendant was arraigned in Waldo County Superior Court on charges of Attempted Burglary, Use of Drug Paraphernalia and Refusal to Stop a Police Officer and scheduled for a Probable Cause Hearing on September 30.
