CAMDEN — Audrey Louise (Cahill) Sabanty, a resident of Camden, passed away Jan. 17, 2013, during surgery at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, Mass.

Audrey was born Jan. 14, 1932, in Lynn, Mass., to Florence and Harold Cahill. Her parents and four brothers loved and adored her all through her life. Audrey loved being with her brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends and fondly reminisced about her early days enjoying time with all of them. She really loved all the family cookouts. As a youngster she had a fun and magnetic personality and this trait stayed with her for her entire life.

Audrey was a graduate of Lynn English High School and later received an associate's degree. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary at General Electric in Lynn. Audrey kept everyone entertained while she worked and helped provide the GE softball team the added power they needed to win games.

She met her husband, Kerry G. Sabanty, at a Greek dance and the two were married Feb. 1,1954, at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn.

Kerry and Audrey made their first home together in Marblehead, Mass., where they both lovingly raised and enjoyed their three boys, George, Stephen and Kerry. She loved getting her boys involved in everything including, of course, sports. She was the loudest at most of their games, yelling "COME ON! You can do it!" If there was something she could find to encourage success in life for her children, she found it and signed them up for it.

Tennis anyone? She played on almost every tennis court in the towns where she lived. She and Kerry made many great friends during this time and played in several tournaments together. The love of tennis allowed her to find her passion as a tennis coach at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass., where she loved coaching women's tennis and had several winning seasons.

Audrey loved to walk Preston Beach and if there was a storm, she would be there in seconds flat. She was a storm chaser. Being an avid bike rider kept her in tip-top shape and this was her main transportation for getting around town. She would load up her tennis gear, put on a colorful bandana and away she went.

In 1979, the Sabantys moved to Northfield, Ill., where she shared her energy with the community as well as her ability to make anyone laugh in seconds. She made long lasting relationships in Northfield and even became an adopted grandmother to the children of her neighbors' on her beloved Dickens Road.

Audrey ran a very successful tennis program for 16 years in Northfield. Her enthusiasm for tennis was obviously contagious as year after year she had a waiting list to get into her park district program. For some in this program learning tennis was in fact secondary, as Audrey had a real gift of knowing exactly what to say to people who needed their spirits lifted. She was truly an intuitive soul and gave this gift to people she met all through her life. There was life after tennis. in fact, she worked plenty of estate sales where she nurtured her love of books and educated herself on pricing books.

Retiring to Camden in 2006 enabled the Sabanty's to live out their dreams. Camden was now headquarters, where family and friends gathered to make more memories. Returning to the coast allowed Audrey and Kerry to enjoy time on the water in their boat, aptly named "Little Aud." She loved touring around the harbor and having friends join them for an evening parked in Camden Harbor. In her golden years, Audrey settled in to being a great and loving grandmother to her grandchildren. She loved to hear about their successes and supported them to go beyond just ordinary expectations. When she was able she would be found at their sports games still supporting and cheering them on with vigor.

She enjoyed being a member of the First Congregational Church in Camden, and volunteered at Heavenly Threads, which helped raise funds for the Congregational Church.

Audrey could be found among stacks of old books finding the hidden gems and pricing them accordingly. She volunteered her services in Northfield and in Camden to assist the churches and community organization fundraisers.

Rain or shine Audrey planted her flowers at any time of the day and enjoyed being a member of the local garden clubs. Many impromptu summer evening gatherings took place near her gardens and potted plants.

Audrey was a unique lady with an abundant energetic spirit who will be missed dearly.

Audrey Louise was the cherished wife of Kerry Sabanty of Camden; the beloved mother of three sons, George and his wife, Carol, Sabanty of Stoughton, Mass., Stephen and his wife, Teresa Sabanty, of St. Charles, Ill., and Kerry and his wife, Debbie Sabanty, of Camden. She also leaves behind five adored grandchildren, Kerry, Michael, Tria, Kerry and Caleb Sabanty; two brothers, Harold Cahill of Marblehead, Mass., and Richard Cahill and his wife, Lynne, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and several dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald H. Cahill and William Cahill.

A Memorial Service followed by a luncheon will be held Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 55 Elm St. in Camden.
