Dennis Arthur Harriman, obituary
RANDOLPH — Dennis Arthur Harriman, age 83, of Randolph, Maine, passed away at home on December 26, 2025, following a challenging illness and arduous fight. He was lovingly cared for by his five children in his final days.
Born on June 7, 1942, in Montville, Maine, Dennis was raised on the farm where he was born—a place that shaped his lifelong values of hard work, independence, and perseverance.
Dennis was an auto mechanic his entire life and was known for his remarkable ability to fix just about anything. Machines made sense to him, and he took great pride in his skill and ingenuity. Whether it was a car, a lawnmower, or a piece of equipment, Dennis could be counted on to help anyone who found themselves broken down and in need.
He loved hunting and fishing and was especially well known for the stories that accompanied those adventures. He was also an avid and expert cribbage player who prided himself on being able to count his opponents’ hands long before they could. Dennis hosted a regular Thursday night poker game at his home, where he shared countless laughs and stories with close friends who loved him very much.
Above all else, Dennis took the greatest pride in his family and caring for them. A devoted father and husband, he was fiercely independent and stoically stubborn—qualities that defined him and remained with him right to the end.
Dennis’s final days were a true testament to the strength of his will and the depth of his love for his family. Having always prided himself on caring for those he loved, it was not easy for him to accept that care in return. Yet his determination to live, and the unwavering presence of his children, reflected a bond built on loyalty, resilience, and profound love.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Winifred Harriman; the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Linda (Chute) Harriman, who passed away on December 23, 2011. His brother Marshall Harriman; his sister Esther Colby; and baby brother Jansen.
Dennis is survived by his five children: Jodie Harriman; Tim Harriman and his wife Pam; Tammy Buck and her husband Craig; Dan Harriman and his partner Judy; and Matt Harriman and his wife Olive. He is also survived by his sisters Sharon Harriman York and Jean Harriman Tripp.
He was a loving grandfather to Mandy, Meghan, Jon, Josh, Kelsey, Ashley, Kaitlin, Jake, Falyn, Veda, and Max, and a cherished great-grandfather to Jaxon, Reagan, MacKenzie, Chloe, Casey, Hayden, Grace, Emma, Knox, Dax, Katie, Evelyn, Ella, Sophie, and Bennett, with another baby girl expected this summer, and also fondly remembered by his bonus grandchildren Carrie, Bryce, McKinley, Madden, and Rylan. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
In recent years, Dennis reunited with his childhood friend, Nyoka, who became a devoted companion and brought friendship and joy to his last few years.
A celebration of Dennis’s life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Sportsman’s Alliance of one’s choice or to the Travis Mills Foundation in Rome, Maine. Dennis was proud to call Travis Mills his grandson-in-law and often spoke, with emotion, of Travis as his hero.
Dennis will be remembered for his quiet strength, his generosity, his unforgettable stories, his stubborn determination, and the deep, abiding love he held for his family and friends.
