Blue Heron Fly Fishing owner to speak to Trout Unlimited
Georges River Trout Unlimited (GRTU) welcomes Sean McCormick, owner/operator of Blue Heron Fly Fishing in Whitefield, for a presentation on fly fishing the Kennebec River. McCormick became a Registered Maine Guide 33 years ago and started Blue Heron Fly Fishing.
The Jan. 13 meeting will be held upstairs in the fly shop at Maine Sport in Rockport, and will start at 6 p.m. with “Trout Talk,” an informal gathering for those who wish to visit before the presentation. The formal meeting and featured presentation begin at 7 p.m. GRTU conducts a raffle directly following the speaker.
Not coming from a fly fishing family, McCormick initially learned to tie and cast by trial and error, according to GRTU, in a news release. He grew up on the Sheepscot River and by high school was chasing Atlantic Salmon with his fly rod most summer evenings. Fly fishing became his obsession.
McCormick guides clients on the Kennebec River for trout and salmon until the water temperature gets too high midsummer, then for smallmouth bass until the water cools again each autumn. He is on his fourth Hyde drift boat and ties all the flies used on Blue Heron Fly Fishing charters each season.
"His obsession has not waned over the years and his passion has spread, with McCormick’s son joining Blue Heron Fly Fishing this summer as a young Registered Maine Guide ready to start his own journey helping others enjoy their time on the Kennebec River," said GRTU.
GRTU meetings are free and open to the public.
