The barn fire reported at 7:03 a.m., at 2329 Friendship Road, in Waldoboro, was the second Waldoboro structure fire of the morning for the mutual aid companies, having first been called, Feb. 20, 2026, at 2:38 a.m., to a mobile home at 801 North Nobleboro Road.
The Fire Marshal’s Office investigated both fires and has determined that the two incidents were unrelated.
At 801 North Nobleboro Road, fire extended through the front windows and roof when firefighters arrived. The two occupants of the home were able to escape the home with one male resident sustaining burns to his shoulder and neck. He was transported to Miles Hospital in Damariscotta. Two cats and a dog perished in the fire and one dog was rescued by the owner.
According to the FMO, in a news release distributed by the Maine Dept. of Public Safety, the roof had collapsed in the center of the home and the front wall had burned away. One firefighter fell through the floor but did not sustain any injuries.
The residents were using propane space heaters inside to help with warming, according to the investigation.
“State Fire Marshal Investigators have classified the fire as undetermined due to competing accidental causes,” said the release.
At the barn fire, in the daylight, a Maine DOT crew supervised a road closure at Finntown and Friendship roads, while just to the north, over a hill and out of sight, firefighters representing Waldoboro, Damariscotta, Jefferson, Nobleboro, Friendship, and Warren battled to prevent flames from consuming the house adjacent to the two-story barn. And then, around the time that a malfunction was noticed in a Jefferson tanker truck, a tanker truck each from Union and Cushing was requested as well.
Arriving firefighters encountered a barn attached to a home heavily involved in fire. The two occupants of the home had already escaped and were unhurt, according to the investigation.
“Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the barn with minimal damage to the home,” said DPS.
State Fire Marshal investigators responded to the scene and determined the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature and is classified as accidental, said DPS.
Water supply teams set up near the bowling alley, 402 Friendship Road.
Cushing FD and Union FD left the scene, en route to their home stations, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Friendship and Warren FDs left at approximately 1:15 p.m.
