Tractor safety course offered in Union
UNION — A tractor safety course will be held on Wednesdays, starting April 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Union Farm Equipment, 1893 Heald Highway/Route 17, Union. Classes will continue on subsequent Wednesdays through April 25. A written exam and tractor-driving test will be held Saturday, May 5 at 9 a.m.
The classes are designed for adults and youth at least 14 years of age, and are required for 14- and 15-year-olds who plan to operate farm equipment for hire on farms other than their own. Those who successfully complete the written and road tests will be issued a Federal Certificate of Training. The course is offered by University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Knox-Lincoln Farm Bureau, Union Farm Equipment and Farm Family Insurance.
The cost for the course is $20; financial assistance is available for students 18 and under, based on need.
