Dam repair gift and cruise ships on Camden Select Board agenda
CAMDEN - A public hearing will be held by the Select Board Tuesday, September 19 to consider a conditional gift to the Town of Camden to fund maintenance on the Montgomery Dam.
The proposed gift of $200,000 from the Ann & David Montgomery estate specifies maintenance on the Montgomery Dam, replacement of the sluiceway gate and cleanup of the island next to the dam during the 2023 calendar year. The Select Board may or may not accept the conditions and/or may impose other conditions prior to final acceptance, according to an agenda note.
In a Sept. 19 memo to the Board, Town Manager Audra Caler provides background that “after discussions with the Montgomery family and their legal counsel, a scope of work was agreed on and quotes have been received.” The work is described in Caler’s memo, a proposed agreement between the Town of Camden and Estate of Ann Montgomery and quotes by Knowles Industrial Services and Jackson Landscaping Services. The work includes masonry repairs to the granite wall and sluiceway of the dam, installation of a new gate, installation of a seasonal gangway or footbridge to allow access to the island next to the dam, and debris removal, foliage pruning and landscaping of the island. Caler recommends the Board accept the gift from the Montgomery family and the scope of work.
Further details of the work and costs are available in the September 19 Select Board packet posted on the town’s website.
Before this public hearing, public hearings for renewal liquor licenses will be held for Camden Island to serve beer, wine and spirits on premises, for Blue Harbor House Inn to serve wine on premises and approval of Camden’s 2023-24 General Assistance appendices.
Action items on the agenda are appointments to the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Committee and setting a date for a Wastewater Commissioners meeting.
The following discussion items are on the agenda: a discussion concerning Knox County Dispatch and other county services, Camden’s budget review process for Fiscal year 2025 and cruise ships in Camden Harbor.
The Board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and takes place in the John French Conference Room on Washington Street. The meeting is broadcast live on Spectrum Cable TV channel 1303 and web streamed at www.youtube.com/TownofCamdenMaine.
