Midcoast Recreation Center to host Community Appreciation Day

ROCKPORT — On Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, from 3 - 6 p.m., Midcoast Recreation Center (MRC) will host a Community Appreciation Day Kids, families and adults are invited to enjoy an afternoon of free tennis, hockey, skating, pickleball and golf.
MRC will close half of the parking lot for an outdoor block party. Between 3 - 6 p.m., there will be tennis for kids, pickleball open play, ping pong, lawn games, contests, and concessions.
This event coincides with the first weekend of ice in the arena for the 2023-24 season. There will be a public skate from 3 - 5 p.m., an ice-skating lesson from 3 - 3:30 p.m., a Try Hockey class from 4:30 - 5 p.m., and Stick & Puck from 5 - 6 p.m.
On the other side of the MRC, the tennis courts were recently resurfaced and painted blue and gray. From 4 - 5:30 p.m., community members can try them out by playing in tennis triples tournament for teams of 3-4 people. Teams should register in advance by calling 207-236-9400.
The golf simulators will also be available throughout the afternoon. All activities are free and open to the public.
“MRC is all about building community through sports, fitness and recreational programs,” said Craig Wilson, executive director, in a news release. “Through this event, we hope to say thank you to those in our community who make MRC possible, and give everyone a chance to try something new. We are hoping for a great turn-out.”
