BELFAST — Looking for an excuse to check out the Belfast Rail Trail? Now’s your chance. On June 3, the public is invited to join PAWS Animal Adoption Center for the 5th Annual Paces for PAWS 5K and 1-mile fun walk / walk-a-thon. Held on the Belfast Rail Trail, this event is open to all ages and the dogs, too. All dogs must have a current rabies tag to participate.
For the 5k race there will be four competitive categories: Adult male, adult female, youth male, and youth female. All runners/walkers will receive a participation medal and some PAWS swag.
For those who prefer to run a shorter distance or want to walk there will be a 1 mile fun run/walk marked on the course. And those who just want to help PAWS, people can collect pledges for a walk-a thon as a way to help raise money for PAWS.
All participants can register by visiting www.pacesforpaws.org. Walk-a-thon’ers who raise $150 will receive a free PAWS T-shirt, and walkers who raise $300 will receive a free PAWS hoodie.
All proceeds will go toward supporting PAWS with continuing to provide shelter, food, and medical care to displaced or at-risk dogs and cats in Midcoast Maine.
Paces for PAWS is the first of five events in the RunBelfast 2023 race series held in Belfast, Maine (more at https://www.runbelfast.org/). The series includes: Paces for PAWS 5k, Rotary Kilted Canter 5K, Rotary Bug Run 5K, YMCA Cross Country 5k, and the Lions Ghostly Gallop.
“The RunBelfast Series is grateful for the support of the Belfast Parks and Recreation Department,” said PAWS, in a news release.
