SEARSPORT and BELFAST — The Penobscot Bay Singers, directed by Richard M. Dostie and accompanied by joani mitchell, will perform Poetry and Prayer the weekend of April 15 and 16.
The choral presentation celebrates the Paschal and spring seasons with a selection of poems and prayers adapted to music.
The program spans several centuries featuring the works of Charles Dickens, Thomas Moore, and William Cullen Bryant; to the more contemporary Robert Frost and Maya Angelou. Choral arrangers include Samuel Barber and Randall Thompson.
“The works look to nature and our quest for truths that are eternal as Dickens' Things That Never Die and Maya Anjelo's Maya’s Prayer for Peace, seeking Peace from our creator,” said Singers, in a news release.
The program also includes a sprightly Irish ditty, by Thomas Moore, providing a quick moment of levity.
The chorus has been entertaining audiences in the Midcoast for over forty years.
Please join them Saturday, April 16, at 7 p.m., at the Searsport First Congregational Church; or Sunday, April 16, at 3 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Belfast.
Suggested donation is $15 with accompanied children free.
