BELFAST — On Friday, February 24, Coastal Mountains Land Trust will be lining a section of the Belfast Rail Trail with luminaries to kick off the Ice Festival with a little evening trail magic.
The Land Trust will provide free hot chocolate at the Belfast footbridge from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
A guided excursion along the luminary trail will leave from the footbridge at 5:30 p.m. Please bring footwear that correlates to the current conditions: ice grips or snowshoes, if the weather allows.
“Hopefully, conditions will permit us to use ice luminaries, but should the weather turn warmer, we will be using paper bags to illuminate the trail,” said CMLT, in a news release.
CMLT is looking for volunteers to help make ice luminaries, assist with the setup process, and to serve hot chocolate. If you are interested in contributing an ice luminary, contact Maeve Cosgrove at maevec@coastalmountains.org.
Coastal Mountains Land Trust has worked since 1986 to permanently conserve land to benefit the natural and human communities of the western Penobscot Bay. The Land Trust has protected over 13,000 acres, offering 50 miles of trails for public recreation.
