Annette Naegel will lead an online presentation titled “The Rockland Bog: A Hidden Climate Solution” in a webinar Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 12 p.m., hosted by Merryspring Nature Center.

Come learn about one of Rockland’s biggest natural climate solutions — the largest peatbog in Midcoast Maine. Naegel, director of lands at the Georges River Land Trust, offers a talk on the under-appreciated value of peatbogs and will acquaint you with the Rockland Bog, a giant sponge that stores carbon and mitigates the effect of climate change. You’ll also learn a little bit about the lore of bogs around the world and about the Rockland Bog’s history, as well as the Land Trust's newest acquisition-the Rockland Bog Preserve.

Naegel has been working in land conservation and stewardship for the last twenty years here in the Midcoast. She is trained in natural resources and ecology with a master’s degree in Environmental Sciences. She currently lives in Rockland, and enjoys spending time in the woods, exploring bogs, and swimming in the ocean.
