Community meeting for seventh graders interested in Trekkers

Event has passed

ROCKLAND — Trekkers is inviting all seventh graders from Rockland, Thomaston, South Thomaston, Cushing, Owls Head, and St. George to apply to become a Trekkers student this Spring.

Trekkers is a nonprofit organization that has offered programs to young people in the Midcoast for over 25 years. Its six-year outdoor and travel-based program begins in seventh grade and lasts through twelfth grade. After meeting regularly throughout the year, students go on an expedition that they have planned together as a team. They also join after-school activities, weekend day trips and overnight “short treks” throughout the school year.

Students take part in community service, environmental education, cultural experiences, activities they express interest in or can challenge themselves with (for example hiking, pottery, or reflective journaling), and as they get older, guidance and prep to work through goals and plans as they prepare for life after high school. Watch the video here.

This year, Trekkers will welcome one cohort of twenty seventh grade students. If more than twenty apply, there will be a lottery system and a waiting list will be put in place if students opt out of the program.
