AUGUSTA — The Board of Governors of the Maine State Bar Association announced that Angela P. Weston has been named executive director.  The bar association represents more than 3,100 member lawyers licensed to practice in Maine. It works to promote its members' professionalism and advance their skills and knowledge, helping them meet the legal needs of all Maine people, and to advance Maine's system of justice. In its programs and services for both lawyers and laypeople, the Association is guided by the three pillars of its mission: liberty, equality, and justice.

Weston, who has served as Deputy Executive Director of the Association since 2004, replaces Julie A. Deacon, who is retiring after 15 years as executive director. Weston will officially take over as executive director July 6.

“After a nationwide search, the search committee felt very strongly that Angela’s professional skills, and her knowledge of the organization and Maine’s legal community made her the best candidate for the job,” said MSBA President-Elect Diane Dusini, who chaired the Executive Search Committee.

Before joining the MSBA, Weston was Special Assistant to the Chancellor at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Prior to that she served as a Military Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army.

Weston holds an M.B.A. and is a graduate of the United States Military Academy. A native of Rockland, she is the daughter of Skip and Sherry Pease, of Spruce Head. Currently, Weston resides in Fairfield with her husband and two daughters.
