combining metaphor, imagery, and humor to ignite the quest for hope and fulfillment

Health talk during unsettling times: What Does It Mean to Be ‘OK’?

Event has passed

Rockland Public Library will host Encouragement Coach Kathrin-Gabriel Jones for a virtual talk, “What Does It Mean to Be ‘OK’?” The presentation will take place via the Zoom platform on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 6:30 p.m.

As Jones will discuss, many people are experiencing a difficult and unsettling time: a pandemic, social change, and economic uncertainty are some of the areas of concern.

“Perhaps we are figuring things out as we go, and each day may seem to bring something new that we need to fold into our lives,” said the Library, in a news release. “With so much going on, sometimes it can seem easier to answer the question, "how are you?" with “I’m okay” and just keep going. However, it can be helpful to acknowledge when we’re not okay, as this happens sometimes; it's natural.”

Kathrin-Gabriel Jones points out that no one can be all things to all people, at all times and in order for individuals to acknowledge that, people need to tell the difference between “I’m okay” and “I’m not okay,” according to the Library.

So … what does “Okay” mean to you?

Kathrin Gabriel-Jones has thirty years of experience in education, ranging from physicians to preschool, teaching subjects that extend from medical compliance to playing well with others. Jones combines metaphor and imagery from pop culture, myth, urban legends, history, and world literature with humor to ignite each person's engagement in their own unique quest for hope and fulfillment.

In her earthy steampunk style, Jones brings pragmatism and imagination to help people reclaim their innate wisdom and become the heroes of their own lives, according to the Library.
