BELFAST — Belfast Summer Nights is planning its second concert in the “Keeping Our Friends and Neighbors Safe” Series for August 6, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

“This novel approach to enjoying live music in the days of Covid-19 has the bands setting up on Belfast’s beautiful footbridge sending tunes out to the harbor, the boaters there and the folks on the shore,” said Summer Nights, in a news release. “With this unique approach there’s no way for the audience to get close to the bands (the footbridge is closed to all other traffic) so the need for congregating is greatly lessened. There’s plenty of room along the shore and Harbor Walk to hang out safely distanced. But the best way to watch these shows is on the harbor itself. Canoes, kayaks, rowboats, sailboats and paddle boards are all great ways to enjoy some super homegrown music, if you don't have one, borrow one from a friend!”

The August 6 show features two groups: Opening the evening is songwriting team Sara Trunzo and Tiffany Williams, both of Nashville, Tennessee. Many will remember Sara Trunzo, a local food system organizer in Unity who has played several inspiring shows around the Belfast area.

“She writes beautiful song portraits of the working people she encountered working throughout Waldo County,” said Nights.

Tiffany Williams is a coal miner’s daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter from Eastern Kentucky. She writes songs, fiction, and co writes with Trunzo. Both have received many awards and acclaim for their songwriting.

“The Rugged is one of the best rock trios around this state and a definite favorite at Belfast Summer Nights,” said Nights.

They play original rock and roll from the swamp.

“A Maine swamp that is,” said Nights. “Second skidder to the right and straight on till you hit the Bog road. Rural lyrical imagery, fuzzy atmospheric guitars and a bold rhythm section to help you shake it. Or rock it if you're in a boat.”

Belfast Summer Nights’ next show is September 3, featuring Bennett Konesni, Shepsi Eaton and the Gawler Sisters.

“Grab your mask, your sweetie, and your boat or lawn chair and come enjoy a fun, safe night of music on Belfast Harbor,” said organizers.
