THOMASTON — Question: How do you host a fun, engaging, event and fundraiser during a worldwide pandemic?
The answer? Host a Tail-a-thon!
This Saturday, Aug. 1, from 2 to 7 p.m., Pope Memorial Humane Society wants you to set some time aside to tune into the Pope Memorial Humane Society Facebook page for their first-ever Tail-a-thon, according to PMHS, in a news release.
“Use a phone, laptop, tablet, whichever!” said PMHS. “This special five-hour event showcases incredible animal stories happening at the shelter and gives you a chance to call in and save lives right here in our community.”
So what is a Tail-a-thon? The PMHS Tail-a-thon is an old-school telethon with a new-school twist. In an effort to stay socially distanced, have fun, raise awareness for local homeless pets and raise much-needed funds for Pope Memorial Humane Society, staff and volunteers will come together for five hours of shenanigans and heartfelt moments, and they want you to tune in.
What can you expect?

Want to stop by in person with a donation? Shepard Auto will be at the shelter with a truck and the goal to stuff the truck for local homeless pets in need. Dry kitten chow, cleaning supplies, trash bags, toilet paper, paper towels, 8 1/2 x 11 copy paper, are all high demand items.
No donation is too small, according to PMHS. Anyone can call the shelter Saturday, Aug. 1, between 2 and 7 p.m., to make a donation over the phone; operators will be standing by. Additionally, you will be able to donate through Facebook.
“Facebook does not charge any processing fees,” said PHMS. “You can even text to donate!”
“We look forward to the day when events are back at full capacity,” said Pope Memorial. “In the meantime, let’s make the best of a not so great situation. Let’s have some fun, celebrate all the good work Pope Memorial Humane Society is doing, and raise some money to make a difference in the lives of local homeless pets in need. Together we can make a difference!”
