UNION — The Union Masonic Lodge 31 will be holding a benefit chicken barbecue on Saturday, July 18, from noon to 4 p.m. The event will be held at their Lodge located at 149 Sennebec Road in Union.
The dinner will consist of a chicken leg quarter or chicken breast, corn on the cob, potato salad, cole slaw, roll and drink. Cost is by donation with a $5 donation suggested. All proceeds from the dinner will be donated to the local Come Spring Food Pantry.
Because of the current pandemic, the BBQ will be set up as a drive thru process at the Masonic Lodge parking lot. However, there will be picnic tables set up on the Masonic Lodge grounds for people to utilize if they desire.
Gary Roberts, Master of the Union Masonic Lodge notes in a news release, "Along with the State of Maine's 200th Anniversary being celebrated this year, it is also the Union Masonic Lodge's 200th birthday as it was founded in 1820. We have appreciated the support of the community over the years and this barbeque is one way we want to say thank you to the Union area communities."
The Common Market grocery store in Union is donating all the food and supplies needed for this event. This will allow all the donations received for the meal to be given to the local food pantry, according to the Lodge.
The event will be held rain or shine as it is a drive thru set up.
