2020 MUSIC BY THE SEA CANCELLED

Thu, 05/21/2020 - 4:45pm

Every spring, the members of Camden Rotary Club eagerly anticipate our annual Fourth of July gift to the community, Music by the Sea.

I am sorry to announce that, like so many other summer celebrations this year, our outdoor concerts in downtown Camden will not happen due to limitations on large gatherings.  As people committed to the well-being of our community, we want to do all we can to ensure that our neighbors remain healthy and safe during the pandemic. We also want to thank the many community members who have sponsored this special event in past years.

While the coronavirus has put a stop to some of our annual traditions, it has kept us focused on helping the community we love. Last month, our club announced $13,000 in grants to the Area Interfaith Outreach, the Camden and Rockport Fire Departments, MCH Meals on Wheels, and P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center.

Recently we also announced an emergency grant pool of $25,000 to help nonprofits in Knox County and Lincolnville respond to COVID-19. Through that initiative, we have sent funds to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Mid-Maine, the Knox County Homeless Coalition, MCH Meals on Wheels, and New Hope for Women for their efforts to protect our most vulnerable neighbors during the pandemic. Also, members of our club are assisting the Midcoast Rotarians’ initiative in accelerating and facilitating support for organizations and individuals during these challenging times.

No one knows what our future holds, but we do hope it brings a return to the customary joys of summer next year.
