Waldo County General Hospital offers free colorectal cancer screenings

Fri, 02/14/2020 - 3:30pm

BELFAST — March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and, to stress its commitment to early detection, Waldo County General Hospital is offering a limited number of free colonoscopies to qualified patients.

The colonoscopies will be scheduled for Friday, March 13. To be eligible, you must be a Waldo County resident age 50 or older who has no insurance or has insurance with a deductible of $5,000 or more.

Colon cancer affects both men and women and is the second leading cause of overall cancer deaths in the United States, according to WCGH, in a news release. Early detection through screening can dramatically reduce your risk. This means having your colon checked regularly starting at age 45, according to the American Cancer Society.
