Maine Lobster Festival names 2020 Grand Marshal

Tue, 02/11/2020 - 3:00pm

ROCKLAND — This year’s grand marshal for the Big Parade during the 2020 Maine Lobster Festival will be Virginia Oliver, aka The Lobster Lady.

Virginia Oliver is a Rockland native and has been lobstering for 91 years. She may be turning 100 in June, but Oliver has not let her age slow her down, according to the Festival, in a news release. The Lobster Lady, as Oliver is affectionately known, has worked as a sternman for her son on the F/V Virginia for 13 years.

“Virginia is a hard worker with a no-nonsense work ethic, and we couldn’t be prouder to have her represent the Festival, the town of Rockland, and the lobster industry at this year’s Big Parade,” said the Festival.

The Maine Lobster Festival Big Parade will take place Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020 in Rockland.
