CAMDEN — Join Camden Public Library’s September Artist-of-the-Month, Linda Shepard, Saturday, September 7, from 3 to 5 p.m., for an artist’s reception celebrating her new fabric art exhibit entitled “Animal Alchemy.”
“This is a collection of interpretive and colorful creatures made with the intent to celebrate the ordinary — sometimes with humor, whimsy, reverence, and with an eye toward the dream world,” said Shepard, in a news release. My hope is to create a textural and visual pleasure.”
Having been a gardener for many years, “I am inspired by the magnificent array of plants, animals, and insects that show us a wild world of color and design,” she said.
She had applied her love for color and design to traditional quilt production for several years, but felt an “impulse toward something new.” In the winter of 2011, she learned the technique of fabric collage from Susan Carlson and saw the “limitless possibilities this technique could offer,” according to the Library.
Shepard appreciates that the method, similar to assembling a mosaic, affords her the “freedom to create interpretive and dreamlike pieces."
Shepard’s quilted illustrations will be on exhibit in the Picker Room of the Camden Public Library throughout the month of September.
