SOUTH THOMASTON — Select Board Chairman Walter Reitz informed South Thomaston at a regularly scheduled board meeting Jan. 8 that he will not be seeking reelection, according to a news release from the town office.

"Between town landing improvements, determining the future of the Gilford Butler School and redesigning the three town transfer station, South Thomaston needs new energy, ideas and skills on this board. I will continue to be an engaged citizen but feel the town will be better served by opening up a spot on the board,” he said, in the release, expressing his desire to have robust community discussions on town issues.

As of Jan. 9, no papers have been taken out to run for the now open seat on the three-member Select Board. Papers need to be completed and returned to the South Thomaston town office by Friday, January 25, at 10 a.m. to be placed on the ballot.

Reitz encourages the citizens of South Thomaston to consider running for the open position and help the town work on important local issues.
