Nov. 30: “Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle” (1994) Dripping with nostalgia, this film is set in New York City in the 1920s. It tells the story of writer and critic Dorothy Parker, who was a founding member of the Algonquin Roundtable, a group of writers, actors and critics such as Noel Coward, Robert Benchley and Harpo Marx, who met regularly at the watering hole in the Algonquin Hotel. But all was not what it seemed. Beneath all the wit and gaiety, Dorothy Parker was racked with sadness and depression. She is deftly portrayed by Jennifer Jason Leigh in the title role of this very complicated figure.
