Event has passed

“Mix and Match” is the theme for November at the Belfast Free Library’s “Friday Night Flix” film series. The month features an eclectic variety of films from the 1970s to the 2000s. All the movies are free and take place at 7 p.m. in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library.

Nov. 2:  “Akeelah and the Bee” (2006) Akeelah is an 11 year old African-American girl from South Los Angeles with an uncanny knack for spelling. Under the guidance of a college professor, (Laurence Fishburne) Akeelah embarks on a journey that will match her spelling skills against students from much more privileged backgrounds. The obstacles are overwhelming, as Akeelah’s commitment is tested every step of the way. Her greatest challenge will come at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. But it has nothing to do with spelling! This spell-binding, feel good story will inspire children as well as adults.
