Herbig’s bill for Gold Star families’ monument earns lawmaker approval
AUGUSTA – Maine lawmakers gave final approval Thursday to House Majority Leader Erin Herbig’s bill to create a monument honoring Maine’s Gold Star families in Capitol Park.
“When I am at the State House, the service and sacrifices that have made our democracy possible are never far from my mind,” said Herbig, D-Belfast, in a news release. “Maine’s Gold Star families have made the greatest sacrifice imaginable in the name of our country and our freedoms. We should show our gratitude to them here in the shadow of the People’s House.”
The measure was approved “under the hammer,” or by unanimous consent, in the House and by a vote of 32-0 in the Senate. It now goes to the governor, who has 10 days to sign, veto or allow the measure to become law without his signature, according to the release.
