Education News: Art scholarship available, Searsport art camp, Maine Maritime sailors head west
LIBERTY — Liberty Graphics, T-shirt printers, is accepting submissions for its 18th annual $1,000 art scholarship. All Maine high school seniors are invited to submit original works that reflect the theme of "Art and our Natural Environment."
Entries must be traditional two dimensional media and must be postmarked by Monday, April 27. Photography, sculpture, and computer-generated works cannot be considered.
Entry forms are available by contacting school art teachers or by visiting the FAQ page at lgtees.com. The winner will be announced by early May. Art will be returned in late May.

The award is intended to aid and encourage students in the pursuit of their artistic experiences and learning.
Spring break art camp in Searsport
SEARSPORT — WORKS is offering an art camp for children ages 4 - 8 during this year's Spring Break, April 21-24. Classes will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. each day, with a different art material to be explored each session.
Comic book drawing, building with wood and other exciting art projects will be offered during the four day session; $40 per child. Limited to 12 participants.
Karen Jelenfy is an artist and educator with more than 30 years of experience in teaching. She is the owner of WORKS in the historic bank building in Searsport across from Tozier's.

Maine Maritime Academy varsity sailors to compete in Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup
SAN PEDRO, Calif — The Maine Maritime Academy Varsity Sailing Team will compete in the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup, a Cal Maritime Invitational Intercollegiate Regatta hosted by the Los Angeles Yacht Club.
Traveling with the team is Sailing Master Capt. Cullen Teel. Meeting the team in San Pedro is newly hired sailing coach, Charles Barclay.
Barclay is originally from the East Coast, but currently lives in Hawaii and is head coach of the 17-member scholastic sailing team at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu.
"In support of the next generation of mariners and yachtsmen I am excited to be heading to Maine Maritime Academy," Barclay said in a news release.
The MMA team includes Alison Mitchell and Steven Bell, Class of 2016; Joseph Farrin, and Rinchen Harrison, Class of 2015; Isaac Parker and Benjamin Sturmer, Class of 2018; and Annika Zayac, Class of 2017.
