ST. GEORGE — This Thanksgiving weekend, as big box stores around the country promote Black Friday deals and discounts, 20 local shops, restaurants, galleries and organizations in St. George will open their doors to welcome residents and visitors to “Yuletide in St. George,” the peninsula’s community-wide kickoff to the holiday season.
Along Route 131, from Hollyberry Lane through the villages of Tenants Harbor, Martinsville and Port Clyde, members of the St. George Business Alliance (SGBA) are offering artwork, antiques, books, calendars, ornaments, holiday decorations, stocking stuffers and many Maine-made, one-of-a-kind treasures and food items to please everyone on your holiday shopping list, according to SGBA, in a news release.
Colorful red “YULETIDE” signs and event maps will identify this year’s participating locations.
Craft fair lovers should note that the Ocean View Grange Christmas Craft Fair and Luncheon, traditionally held on Thanksgiving Saturday for the last 15 years, has relocated to the Black Harpoon Restaurant in Port Clyde. The Old Moose Crafts Fair has also moved, from its 2018 location at the Odd Fellows Hall to the American Legion Hall in Tenants Harbor. Girl Scout Troop 1831 is providing breakfast and lunch treats at the Legion on Saturday.
Ancho Honey, at the corner of Walston and Port Clyde Roads, will also have lunch available on Friday and Saturday afternoons. On Saturday only, the East Wind is serving brunch in the Quarry Tavern; the Jackson Memorial Library has scheduled a book signing, book sale and soup and bread lunch; and the St. George Historical Society is hosting a “soft opening” of their new space in the Old Library Museum on Main Street in Tenants Harbor. The Marshall Point Lighthouse and Museum Gift Shop will also be open to welcome shoppers.
The St. George Business Alliance is a local nonprofit trade association of businesses, individuals, and nonprofit organizations whose mission is to promote business and cultural prosperity is St. George. The SGBA invites everyone to support “Yuletide in St. George” and the organization’s participating members by “shopping local” this holiday season.
“Yuletide” maps will be available online at www.stgeorgebusinessalliance.com and at participating locations.
