Writers of Belfast Climate Action Plan initial draft plan community discussion

Event has passed

BELFAST — The public is invited to a community discussion on the initial draft of the Belfast Climate Action Plan, Tuesday, June 14, at 6 p.m., in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library. The event is co-sponsored by the Library’s All of Belfast Climate Dialogues project and the City of Belfast Climate Crisis Committee.

Towns and cities across Maine – and the nation – are developing and enacting climate action plans to identify what actions are needed to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions and what preparations are needed to address the effects of climate change on local infrastructure and property.

The Belfast Climate Crisis Committee is seeking community input on their initial draft of a climate action plan for Belfast. This draft identifies threats to municipal infrastructure such as flooding associated with intense rainfall and sea level rise impacts to our waterfront, and disaster preparedness such as the need for robust communication networks to enable coordinated response. It also addresses issues related to public health, transportation, energy, cooling and heating homes, local food security, and more.

Belfast residents are invited to learn more about the draft and give input on what is included and what is missing. Join members of the Climate Crisis Committee and fellow Belfast residents for a facilitated discussion of what our Belfast climate action plan should address.
