 Jacqueline Field is a textile and dress historian and author and will speak Oct. 10, at 7 p.m., at the Camden Public Library as part of the Discover History Month. Her talk:  The World War ! Dye Shortage: Color, Clothes, and Chemistry.

Her areas of expertise include the American silk industry and the WW1 color famine. She will discuss the USA’s dependence on German dyes, strategies manufacturers adopted after dye supplies were cut off in WW I, and the scramble to develop a domestic dye industry. Jacqueline is the co-author of the award-winning book “American Silk 1830-1930.” She has contributed numerous articles to local and national scholarly journals and is a member of the Costume Society of America and The Textile Society of America. A longtime Portland resident, Jacqueline was born and educated in Scotland.
