ROCKLAND — On Wednesday, May 15, 6:30 p.m., Maine Master Naturalist, Cyrene Slegona, of Belfast, will give a talk about monarch butterflies and the mysteries of their North American migration at Maine Coastal Islands NWR Visitor Center, in Rockland.

Slegona has studied these butterflies since the age of 12, and just recently visited their overwintering sites in Mexico.

She will present historical, current and future research, and will review the life cycle and observed behaviors at each metamorphic stage.

Also, attendees will learn about best hand-rearing practices and pollinator-friendly garden ideas that can help save these butterflies for future generations.
