CAMDEN/ROCKPORT — Merryspring Nature Center will hold its annual Winter Wassail Celebration, Saturday, Dec. 15, from 2 to 5 p.m.
This free community celebration is open to all. The Winter Wassail will include a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.
The Mill Street Singers, led by Susan Shaw, will fill the air with song and spirit to celebrate the winter solstice, along with a special performance by the Children’s Wassail Chorus.
Merryspring volunteers will lead hands-on crafts and activities for families.
Outdoors, there will be a chestnut roasting demonstration led by Eric Evans.
The event culminates with the lighting of the Jätkän Kynttilä, a traditional Finnish logger’s candle.
To keep everybody warm, campfires will burn all day, and plenty of hot wassail (a non-alcoholic drink made from fruit juices and spices) and other refreshments will be served.
This is an indoor and outdoor event. Guests should dress in warm clothing. In the event of heavy snow, the program will be held on Sunday, December 16.
This program is part of the Free Family Programs series at Merryspring, sponsored by Camden Real-Estate Company.
Merryspring is a community nature center offering walking trails, cultivated gardens, wildlife, and ecology and horticulture educational programs all year round.
